Grammar!

"Gamepark Holding's" on the main page should read Gamepark Holdings'. Honestly, tut tut, etc. --Palaver 01:48, 1 March 2008 (PST)

This is correct. See http://www.globalgph.com Company Profile if you are in doubt. Could some admin change it please? Double7 21:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Milestone reached - Worthy for Main page note?

btw: Browsing the GP2X file archive i found that the number of available emulators now reached the count of 100. If you think that is noteworthy for the Main page please add it there and feel free to remove this lines here. Double7 14:15, 18 September 2007 (PDT)

Software in csv file

What if all the software known on this site were put into a dynamically updated csv file. This would be useful for people creating Package Management software. Cactusbin 17:32, 1 September 2007 (PDT)

I don't understand "all the software known". Do you want to include native gp2x software only - or are you thinking about all files ever noted on the gp2x wiki? For the first thing it would be a good idea to ask the keeper of the gp2x file archive for a content list of http://archive.gp2x.de.
Software running on emulators belongs to the original system platform and listing it again for the wiki will be a dupe. That way you are doing a "software ever exsist" list, which is that big that maintaining it will be a full time job. Double7 14:01, 18 September 2007 (PDT)

By dynamically updating I was thinking that the wiki admins could create a script that would read from the wiki's mysql db. The gp2x.de archive would have to be completely separate. Cactusbin 09:01, 21 September 2007 (PDT)

Best to ask EvilDragon for something similar (if it doesn't already exist) for the archives. We don't have access to the wiki database directly, so it can't happen here. Sorry. Orkie 12:46, 21 September 2007 (PDT)

Kernel source code

I don't think that the note about the kernel (and other software part of the firmware) release added by Martinbogo should be the first thing on the Main Page. GPL compliance is important but I don't think there is a need for such a reminder. Instead, one should fills the Kernel Release page and put a link to it somewhere on the Main Page. If anybody does it, please avoid any GPL-fandboys propaganda, it doesn't help. Neither does ALL CAPS title and bold-underlined text. --mongolito404 01:55, 12 January 2006 (PST)

What are you talking about? -no_skill 08:54, 12 January 2006 (PST)
I was talking about this revision of Main Page. Mike did what I should have done.--mongolito404 11:28, 12 January 2006 (PST)
Oh, sorry. I didn't got the notification mail when that was added thus I didn't see it. -no_skill 04:29, 13 January 2006 (PST)

Server Move

I moved the wiki to another host. The change in apache versions caused pages with '&' in the title to break. I've now renamed those and the links to them and I don't know of any remaining problems. Say so here if anything else is not as it should be. Mike 10:40, 6 January 2006 (PST)

I already wondered why you changed those. Nice to know -no_skill 10:59, 6 January 2006 (PST)

Navigation

Why not move 'Where to start?' to th right and moving the two boxes on the right to the left unter the 'Welcome' box? -Synkro 11:39, 2 December 2005 (GMT)

Why?

I think we should structure the navigation on the mainpage, it's getting more and more cluttered. I guess seperating in -user stuff- and -dev stuff- would be a good idea. no_skill I think ' Wiki Frenzy' and 'Wiki Organisation & Important Stuff' should not stay on the main page. (synkro)

There is even more I'd like to remove: "# Works In Progress - A list of programs that are currently undergoing development or planning"<-- This is no developer project site, this about gather facts an being helpful "# Suggestion Box - A list of what could be developed or ported" <-- again just unhelpful. And the entries about Theme Redesign and about the gp32x mascot. Those things are not needed on the front page - Synkro 09:15, 2 December 2005 (GMT)
WIP / Suggestions is pretty popular - I wouldn't remove these. You can remove the mascot things, but I'd like to keep wiki organization related material. Maybe put it in a seperate page. I you remove that whole block (which I guess you want do to) be sure to replace it with something that keeps the "layout" intact (ie: add a gp2x image). (no_skill)
I was thinking that we could have a 'Featured Application' block that would be changed occastionally to highlight an excellent GP2X application. It could include a screenshot, brief description and a link to the main wiki page about the program. My first nomination for such a block would be 2xQuake. -Andrew j w 10:58, 2 December 2005 (GMT)
Wonderful idea! Go for it! (Just copy one of the existing divs and add it! (no_skill) I've already made the wiki organization block a bit smaller and am waiting for synchro to even more reduce it (maybe).
Agreed! Good Idead! go Ahead! -Synkro 11:35, 2 December 2005 (GMT)

The left collum is much longer than the right and it takes too much scrolling to see everything. Especially the important user information on the left collum is way down, while the (pretty unimportant) languages take up a massive amount of space at the top (including a massive amount of free space next to them) due to bad formatation. I already tryed to change it, but it was reversed. -Julius 19:32, 3 September 2006 (GTM)

with your explanation the change makes sense. without it it was weird. --no_skill 11:49, 3 September 2006 (PDT)
I evened up the columns. You like? --Yono 12:51, 3 September 2006 (PDT)

Should the block titles be renamed? Now they are named "Developers" and "Users". Instead of refering to the persons itself it could be named to be quarters (like a library), e.g. "Developer's corner" or "User area", "User space". On the other hand they could be named after the actions like "Development" or "Using", furthermore maybe the areas could be differentiated more nicely with some icon set... e.g. some gears for the development - would be nice if it could be included into the template afterwards. -- StarG 08:49, 4 June 2007 (PDT)

Older Discussion

yes you are right, we should focus on the development anyway. (synkro)

I think that user oriented "getting it to work" and "gotchas" are pretty important too. It might also be nice to have a record of outstanding bugs and wishes somewhere. --Araneidae
Why not? (no_skill)
Because it's looking very cluttered now. I was wondering if Wiki Frenzy could be detached into its own page and given a very prominent link, maybe in the first box on the front page. Then the last two boxes on the right hand side would pull up to the top and the front page would be tidy again. (araneidae)
Ok. Go ahead. As long as it's clean and can't be ignored ;) (no_skill)
Done! (araneidae)
Perfect! The only thing left is the wiki organization block. i'd like to have some kind of -very-important-happenings- and very important websites block up there, but i doubt the way it's currently done is any good...

Game Entry Template

I created a simple game-entry-template that I think sould be used at game-entries on the wiki. The template can be found here: http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Template:Game An example how it is used, edit and view: PushBox --sweetfish

Note that this is now replaced by Template:Infobox Game Justthisguy 16:08, 31 May 2007 (PDT)

GP2X

We have agreed on using GP2X across the wiki, not GP2x or gp2x.

Ads?

Who added the ads? Are they really necessary (for bandwidth costs I suppose...)

Uglyyy... annoying... you know, ads :( (RiX0R)

They are here since the wiki started and they are necessary, added my snaff, who owns gp2x.org. -no_skill 13:05, 8 December 2005 (GMT)

Another language translation

hi, I've registered and now I'm trying to edit gp2x wiki, but how can I make translation of this pages?

Just like everyone else. Create a copy of the page under a (pseudo) namespace. ie: Fr:Main_Page, Jp:Main_Page, Es:Main_Page
how are changes of same pages with different languages monitored?
if there is change on the english page, how someone knows that his translation may be outdated?
I think mediawiki has no "direct" way to do this. However you can watch the english page (watch button in the tab bar on top of every page) and so get a notification mail when someone changed it. That works pretty well. -no_skill 02:54, 22 January 2006 (PST)
in that case the writers should think about the page titles like "Main_Page", "Cz:Hlavni" or "De:Hauptseite" and on. Those titles show the same page in different languages. It would be much easier to keep track of translation if the english titles are used for translated pages, e.g. "Main_Page", "Cz:Main_Page" and "De:Main_Page" and on. i've seen that you suggested that already some lines above.

Wiki inaccurateness

Upon a spark of discussion inside the #gp2xdev channel things seem that reality and the wiki storage have shifted for some bits. For an example games compatibility of different emulators is quite dusted and it would be wise to remove them for the time beeing, to allow for fresh and clean data to flow.

Moreover i'll install a general TO-DO page which helps to know what pages should be revised and what pieces of information could be added in the next time. Chat has told that devs often are quite busy and don't have the time to keep up information upto date - so thats why information can be lost / unknown to the public. -- StarG 04:44, 29 May 2007 (PDT)

Wiki Organization

entry for the programming corner

Please someone should link the General_Programming_FAQ article to the programming corner in the mainpage. Thx -- StarG 16:48, 3 June 2007 (PDT)

Problems with the site

The wiki seems to be malfunctioning in a handful of different ways. Some pages will randomly refuse to load. This seems to happen most consistently when trying to save a page from a preview page. Worst of all though everything seems to occasionally randomly redirect to to some spam site advertising Viagra (which explains why that is what google currently has this sites front page cached as). ThatOtherPerson 13:25, 29 January 2010 (PST)

That was a redirection bug of the mediawiki software. It was updated meanwhile. If anyone else got that trouble after 2010-July-01, please report again.Double7 22:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

The archive has moved

The front page GP2X File Archive link still leads to archive.gp2x.de but its a dead link. The archive has since moved to this address

http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi

--ThatOtherPerson 21:57, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

The GP2X User Guide link has the same problem. That one is now here:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi?0,0,0,0,23,933
Bunny 00:09, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Please edit the archive link

It still goes to gp2x.de whereas it should now point to openhandhelds.org -- I can't edit this myself, so could someone with the right permissions do it, please? Bunny 23:21, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Translate extension

Hello, I see that this is a multilingual wiki. Have you considered using the Translate extension, which allows to easily make your MediaWiki multilingual? It makes you save enormous amounts of time which otherwise is wasted on templates wizardry, manual synchronisation of pages and so on, scarying off most translators; and offers many other aids to efficient translation. Now it's also available in handy tarball bundles. The page explains how to get help and more information, and there is extensive documentation; asking on #mediawiki-i18n @ freenode is probably your best chance for immediate assistance if needed. Thanks, Nemo 16:40, 13 January 2013 (PST)
